Chapter 4: American Travel Habits
Top U.S. Destinations for Americans
Famous for being a hedonistic haven with over-the-top casinos and night clubs, as well as having our country’s best taxi drivers, Las Vegas is Americans’ favorite U.S. travel destination. Vegas, baby, is closely followed by New York City and Orlando, in second and third places, respectively.
The Windy City, Chicago, saw room rates increase 5% to $152 and remained steady in the top 10 destinations for Americans at number four.
Known for its relaxing west coast surfer vibe, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco continue to be popular destinations in fifth, sixth and seventh places.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic travel spots for 2011 were Washington D.C., which opened the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in 2011, Houston and New Orleans.
